Sophia Dussek: Favorite Airs Arranged for the Harp

Sophia Corri could have fared better in the husband department, (she married the ne’er-do-well Bohemian composer Jan Ladislav Dussek), but she did manage to excel in producing arrangements for her chosen instrument, the harp. These compositions enjoyed great success in her lifetime, particularly her arrangements of favorite airs, popular operas and Scottish, Welsh, Irish or even French songs.

Harpist Kyunghee Kim-Sutre offers us a selection of Favourite Airs arranged by Sophia Corri Dussek in this week’s featured recording, most of which have not yet been recorded.

Les Six pièces brèves (1917) d’Henriette Renié pourraient illustrer un conte de Perrault, tandis que Jardin mouillé (1913) de Jacques de La Presle, luisant sous le soleil, et les six aquarelles fauréennes du jeune Jacques Ibert (1917), joyau de I’album, délivrent une leçon d’optimisme : après la pluie, le beau temps.

Recording Kreutzer-Bochsa 6 Nocturnes Concertants

We just finished recording the Kreutzer-Bochsa 6 Nocturnes Concertants for Violin and Harp, in the amazing new Ostin recording studio at UCLA. So nice to enjoy this beautiful weather after so many hours inside the studio!

We had a real pleasure recording these beautiful nocturnes, full of charm and surprise! They are originally written for Violin and Harp, around 1816 by the 2 virtuoso, violinist Rodolphe Kreutzer and harpist Nicolas Charles Bochsa, a rare example of collaborated compositions!

The CD will be released this summer, we’ll keep you updated!
